During the first ten days of January, 1945, a final German offensive called “Watch On The Rhine” struck along a wide front which included the XV Corps of the Seventh U.S. Army in the Vosges Mountains. The 44th Infantry Division was defending in this area and was initially forced back by the attack. After days of fierce combat in miserable weather, the attack was finally repelled. This is the story of the heroic efforts of the 44th Division in this battle.
